Dr. Elizabeth Cassidy ParkerElizabeth Cassidy Parker, PhD, is the Assistant Professor of General/Choral Music Education as well as the Artistic Director of the Voices of the Valley Youth Choir. She received her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Bachelors and Masters of Music Education from Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she studied voice with Richard Anderson and Marvis Martin. Dr. Parker held the position of Director of Music of a large not-for-profit children’s welfare agency that serves over 100,000 families each year. She also taught elementary general music and middle/high school choral music for seven years. As a choral singer, she sang with Robert Shaw and James Conlon at Carnegie Hall and performed as a regular professional chorister with the Marble Collegiate Sanctuary Choir.
Dr. Parker has presented her research at the American Educational Research Association, the National Society for Research in Music Education, the National American Choral Directors Association Conference, the Mayday Colloquium XXII, the Desert Skies Research Symposium, the International Sociological Conference for Music Education, and most recently at the Society for Music Teacher Education. Dr. Parker is published in the Choral Journal, the Journal of Music Teacher Education, Music Education Research, Action, Criticism, and Theory in Music Education, and the International Journal of Music Education. Her research interests include the social and philosophical development of adolescent choral singers as well as socialization of pre-service music educators. Dr. Parker lives in Columbus with her spouse and two children, Sara and Theo.
