Schwob School of Music

Giving to the Schwob School

We have much to celebrate at the Schwob School of Music! Founded only 21 years ago, the Schwob School is proud to be one of the leading and fastest-growing university-level music programs in the southeast, with a world-class facility and accomplished faculty.

Since 2001 the Schwob School has been housed in the impressive RiverCenter for the Arts, designed to provide students with everything needed to study, rehearse, and perform music. This beautiful building features a 2,000-seat concert hall, a 400-seat recital hall, a 175-seat black box theater, four acoustically isolated large ensemble rooms, and a plethora pleasant, acoustically isolated practice rooms.

The Schwob School of Music was selected as the 2008-09 recipient of the University System of Georgia Regents Teaching Excellence Award for Departments and Programs. This prestigious award is presented annually to one program within the 35 campus University System of Georgia, and validates the high standards we strive to uphold in the education of our students.

The heart of our School is our faculty, all of whom are exceptionally well qualified to teach, and are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields of expertise. When you visit the campus and meet the faculty, you will experience the emphasis placed on nurturing each student's talent both individually and collectively.

Our students have gone on to careers as public school teachers, professional performers, conductors, college and university professors, and private music teachers. The success of our students and graduates continues to be a source of great pride for us!

In addition to attracting and retaining extraordinary faculty at the Schwob School of Music, we must enhance our scholarship offerings for gifted music students to continue bringing them to The Schwob School, Columbus State University and Columbus. For this reason, your participation in the Patrons of Music Society is more important than ever.

Since 1987, the Patrons Society has played a crucial role in our success here, and your membership, at whatever level you choose to participate, demonstrates that you believe in the importance of training young classical musicians.

While all contributions to the Patrons Society are applied directly toward student scholarships, naming a prize or a scholarship enables you to become even more involved, since it provides you with the opportunity to benefit a specific Schwob School student and follow his or her progress throughout the year and beyond.

If you have not participated in the Patrons of Music Society in the past, I hope that you will consider joining this year. Our members share a unique sense of pride in the quality of musical education we offer here, and have the opportunity to enjoy special member events throughout the academic year.

For those of you who are long-standing and devoted members of the Patrons Society, know how deeply appreciative we are for your ongoing support and unwavering generosity.
