Masterclass Information

banner2014fromMar7

ISSAC features two different masterclasses where saxophonists will play for ISSAC clinicians in a public performance. The 2014 ISSAC clinicians are Vincent David and Kenneth Tse. These individuals are among the world's most widely recognized performers and teachers. Please visit the Masterclass clinicians page for more information about each of these individuals.

All ISSAC attendees are welcome to observe all masterclasses. Anyone who wishes to perform in a masterclass must submit the Masterclass Application Form (see link below), show approval from his/her current saxophone professor and register specifically for Level II participation (please see the ISSAC Registration link below). Level II masterclass registration is open now and will close on September 15, 2014. The ISSAC schedule allows for a total of eight (8) masterclass performers, each of whom will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Assignments to each specific masterclass will be determined by the ISSAC Director.

Masterclass application includes:

  • Submission of the Masterclass Application Form
  • Approval from the applicant's current saxophone professor indicating that the applicant is qualified to perform the proposed composition in a public forum. This approval must be in the form of an email sent to ISSAC's Director, Amy Griffiths (griffiths_amy@columbusstate.edu).
  • Payment of the $80 fee.

Only complete applications (including the Masterclass Application Form, professor approval, and fee payment) will be considered for masterclass assignments. The Masterclass application deadline is September 15, 2014.

There are two methods to submit Masterclass Application materials:

  1. Submission of Masterclass Application Form + professor approval + payment online (electronic submission)
    • Address an email to griffiths_amy@columbusstate.edu
    • The email subject line should be: ISSAC Masterclass, Applicant's Full Name
    • Complete the Masterclass Application Form, scan it, save it as a pdf file, and attach to the email
    • Request that your saxophone professor send the masterclass performance approval email to griffiths_amy@columbusstate.edu
    • In addition to the Masterclass Application Form and the professor approval, applicants must also pay the $80 Masterclass fee by submitting payment electronically  via Level II registration

  2. Submission of Masterclass Application Form + payment via US Postal Service (professor approval must be sent via email)
    • Complete the Masterclass Application Form
    • Fill out a check in the amount of $80, made payable to Columbus State University Foundation, Inc.
    • Mail the above items to:
      Dr. Amy Griffiths
      Columbus State University
      Schwob School of Music
      4225 University Ave.
      Columbus, GA 31907
      USA
    • Request that your saxophone professor send the masterclass performance approval email to griffiths_amy@columbusstate.edu

As the September 15, 2014 deadline is not a postmark deadline, but a strict deadline for all materials to be received by the end of the day on September 15, 2014 (12:00am, September 16, 2014), applicants are encouraged to submit all materials well in advance of September 15.

Please observe the following conditions regarding ISSAC's competition and ISSAC's masterclasses:

  • Anyone who is among the 40 competitors advancing to ISSAC's competition Preliminary Round is not eligible to perform in a masterclass.
  • Competitors are welcome to attend all masterclasses, but not to perform in one.
  • Anyone who applied for the competition Screening Round, paid the $50 fee, but did not advance to the Preliminary Round is eligible to perform in a masterclass. In such cases, the applicant will be required to pay an additional $30 for masterclass performance.
